My First Blog
Hello there! My name is Brooklynn Martin and I am currently a student studying at Linn-Benton Community College. I first started my college journey at Oregon State University studying Business Administration. I didn’t have the best experience due to some personal reasons so I decided to go back home which led me to getting into beauty school to become a Nail Technician. I didn’t nail at a local salon for about a year before I decided I wanted to go back to school to finish my degree which brought me to applying at LBCC. I am now on track to get my Associates in General Studies as well as a certificate for a business program directed towards students who plan to own their own business. My goal is to use to open up a coffee shop once I get through school.
I am a business student and when it comes to owning and operating a business marketing is a key aspect in your success. When I attended OSU, I took a course that required us to be in teams to create a business. My role in the group was to handle all the marketing aspects of the business which is why I am taking this marketing course because I know how important it will be for me when I am eventually starting up a new business. Something I hope to learn from this course is what kinds of marketing and how marketing for small business might differentiate from marketing for a larger corporation.
One of my favorite things to do outside of being in class is doing crafts especially crochet. If you are unaware of what crochet is, it is a yarn craft similar to knitting. I’ve made many things including stuffed animals, hats, sweaters, and my favorite project I’ve done so far is a blanket. I really enjoy the satisfaction of finishing a project especially if it’s one that took me a lot of time because I know how much work I put into it. My other favorite thing to do is spend time with my puppy Nova. I got Nova at the beginning of last year from a shelter in Corvallis, Oregon. I went there one day with my friend just to look around at all the animals and ending up coming home with a 70 pound pitbull who I absolutely love. That was definitely the best impulse decision I’ve ever made. She is very friendly and loves to nap and I don’t think I could have asked for a better dog.
